We all remember the rush of getting something great in a $2 lucky dip as a child.
Well, it turns out at lot of us are still chasing that high, with one Aussie company’s recent lucky-dip style promotion sparking hundreds of video reveals on TikTok.
Frank Green, a company which makes resuable drink bottles and coffee cups, recently began selling $60 mystery boxes via its website.
The boxes were a random mix of two to three Frank Green products and good value if you consider their one litre drink bottles usually retail for $59.95 a pop.
Soon shoppers began sharing their mystery box contents on TikTok, with the strangely thrilling videos racking up hundreds of thousands of views.
“This is your sign to get the $60 Frank Green mystery box,” @rileyylawson captioned her
video, revealing she had got a yellow one litre drink bottle, a 590ml burgundy drink bottle and a pastel orange cup in hers.
“Unboxing my Frank Green mystery bag! Was kinda nervous not gonna lie,” @graciestyles1613 captioned her video unboxing, which included a one litre red drink bottle and a blue coffee cup.
But they weren’t all good – @milmilltiktokk could barely hide her annoyance when her Frank Green mystery box contained a small coffee cup and multi-coloured leopard print bottle.
“You’re actually kidding me,” she said. “I really thought I was going to get lucky.”
Others ended up with a literal mixed bag, with @elizabeth.makeup.artist receiving a pastel purple coloured bottle and coffee cup, as well as a leopard print drink bottle.
“I think I’ve done well,” she said. “(The leopard print) I can manage, oh my god (but) this is not good.”
Viewers felt a rush of excitement when the shopper unearthed a pastel-coloured bottle – and the sharp pang of disappointment when the box contained one of Frank Green’s divisive rainbow leopard print bottles.
“They way I ran and did this,” one commenter said after watching one shopper’s successful mystery box haul.
“I just got mine and got a rainbow leopard print bottle,” one person lamented.
“GUYS DON’T DO IT! I GOT TWO SMALL CUPS THIS IS JUST A LUCKY ONE!” another warned.
“Mine’s coming today and I’m scared,” one nervous shopper said.
One woman even shared how she got her boyfriend to open her mystery box contents via FaceTime as she was too excited to wait until she got home.
There’s so many videos showing the mystery boxes being unboxed, they’ve become a pop culture phenomenon in themselves.
Rejected bottles from the Frank Green mystery boxes even appear to have ended up on Facebook Marketplace, with the divisive leopard print bottles featuring heavily.
It’s prompted some TikTokers to spare a thought for whoever was responsible for the animal print style.
